The £1.2 million project is the first major building project for the congregation for some 44 years, which at present has 275 families.
Through the years the design and interior configuration of the church have undergone numerous changes,including the addition of a vestibule and countervailing chancel area in 1866 and removal of the balconies.
The Meiting House was painstakingly restored to its original form in 1929 through the generosity of Vance, Henry and Anne Mc Cormick, members of a prominent central Pennsylvania family whose ties to Silver Spring date back to its beginnings.
With more people attending the church over the last number of years, the congregation embarked on this ambitious building project, having considered extending and renovating the old church building.
This, however, would not have met future needs and wasn’t economically viable.
